Andy Shia (B FA)

Andy Shia, ActivOT TA Croydon Park, was born and raised in Adelaide. At the age of 14, he went to the US on full scholarship to study classical Chinese dance at a private arts institution in upstate New York.
In New York, Andy completed his studies and graduated with a bachelor in Fine Arts. Andy went on to join the world’s premier classical Chinese and music performing arts company – Shen Yun, where he performed and toured all around the world for over 10 years.
After his expansive on-stage career, Andy took a pedagogical route in his dance career, and took up the opportunity to teach middle and high school students classical Chinese dance in Taiwan. Having gained valuable experience through teaching, he learnt to understand the significance of being patient and considerate towards each student and their different needs. Through this, Andy developed an amicable personality with a persistent attitude.
After hearing rewarding stories of what the occupational therapy profession can bring, Andy took up the opportunity to begin studying Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, and shortly joined ActivOT as a therapy assistant in 2022. He believes his past dance career and pedagogical experiences will greatly aid him in his therapy assistant work. In the future, Andy aspires to study occupational therapy at university.
Balancing work and study, in his spare time Andy also enjoys the outdoors, playing sports such as badminton, and spending quality time with his family.
