About Helen

Helen Painter, ActivOT Malvern, has over 30 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist in the USA, Australia and Canada, in both regional and metropolitan settings. She has a special interest in human rights, advocacy, medico-legal work, mental health and school-based assessments, with over 16 years of experience working in school-based environments, supporting individuals, many with autism. Helen is also experienced in the development of executive functioning, sensory processing, handwriting, and special provisions and has extensive experience across all areas of Occupational Therapy, including in Level I, II and III trauma hospitals in the US, mental health and supporting children in the school environment. Helen loves being an OT because it provides a mechanism to support human rights within the framework of disability, access, and human occupation that results in life-changing outcomes for individuals receiving support. Helen can accept referrals for individuals requiring NDIS-related medico-legal services, NDIS Assessments, DVA RAP & HHS services, and Support at Home services.

Helen's Professional Background

Helen has over 30 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy which she obtained from La Trobe University. Helen holds a Master of Arts in Education Administration with a minor in Special Education Law, from California State University Sacramento. She has worked in a wide range of settings in both healthcare and education and has achieved national recognition in the USA for mentoring and advocacy work.

Outside of her working life, Helen loves to travel both locally and overseas, spending time with friends and family, and has a special attachment to Sacramento and Long Beach in California. Helen unwinds in coffee shops with a latte, discovering new places to eat, urban walks and hiking far away from the city.
