About Rachel

Rachel Hamshere, ActivOT Hahndorf, was born and raised in the Adelaide Hills. She is passionate about using OT assessment and intervention to support individuals with mental health conditions. Rachel has extensive experience working with individuals who have high complex mental health and comorbid psychosocial, medical, environmental, cognitive, and functional needs. Rachel has a caring and confident approach to engaging with individuals to understand how their symptoms impact their functioning. She values working in collaboration with both individuals and their key supports to build and sustain engagement in routines and relationships that support the individual to effectively manage the demands of daily life, work towards goals that are important to them and live a more meaningful life. Out of work Rachel enjoys spending time with her family and friends, walking her dog, listening to live music, travelling, swimming and spending time in nature.

Rachel's Professional Background

Rachel completed Bachelor of Nursing (pre-registered) and Bachelor of Paramedics (Health Science) at Flinders University in 2010 and worked for SA Ambulance Service as a Paramedic. She later returned to Flinders University as a graduate to complete her Masters of Occupational Therapy at Flinders University, Adelaide in 2015. She has 10 years experience working for Central Adelaide Mental Health Services in both inpatient and community mental health settings. This includes experience in leadership, quality improvement projects and supervision working as Senior Occupational Therapist at Eastern Community Mental Health since 2021, as well as extensive experience in completing urgent mental health assessments, care coordination, OT assessment and interventions.
