Music Therapy Belongs in the NDIS

Music Therapy is a crucial research-based allied health profession that has been proven to benefit individuals of all ages. It is delivered by Registered Music Therapists who possess high level music skill and postgraduate training.

On 25 November 2024, the Australian Government announced that Music Therapy would no longer be funded as a therapeutic support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The proposed changes mean that music therapists will no longer be able to operate in a clinical capacity, in effect excluding them as therapy providers under the NDIS and making access to music therapy incredibly difficult for participants.

Together, with Creative Therapy Adelaide, we have pulled together some resources to find out more about music therapy and it’s role in supporting NDIS participants, as well as how you can help to advocate for these clinical supports to remain funded as a therapeutic support under the NDIS.
