Vani Zeitouneh, ActivOT Brighton, completed a Bachelor in Occupational Therapy from the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa (1994), graduating with Honours in Occupational Therapy and Psychology. She also completed a Diploma in Government Management in Adelaide in 2013.
On graduating, Vani commenced her career working in a 1300 bed rehabilitation hospital gaining extensive experience in rehabilitation of burns, strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputees and upper limb injuries.
She was a member of the Occupational Therapy Advisory Board and was instrumental in establishing a baseline functional assessment for people applying for disability pensions. She was also very active in mentoring and supervising of final year occupational therapy students.
Vani worked as a clinical specialist at an acute hospital in Saudi Arabia for five years and was instrumental in establishing a dedicated burns unit. Her extensive clinical and splinting skills enabled her to set up many programs to improve accessibility of therapy services to the wider community.
Vani also worked in Dubai where she focussed her energies on brain injuries, stroke and upper limb rehabilitation. She has worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights of migrant labourers to access rehabilitation services.
Vani continued her career at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia as a clinical lead in hand therapy. She was involved in many research projects, acted as a consultant for upper extremity rehabilitation and specialist services such as pressure garments, neonatal splinting and lymphedema management.
Since joining the ActivOT team, Vani has enjoyed providing in-home occupational therapy services to her community in Brighton, South Australia.
Vani is community minded and is actively involved in many community projects and animal welfare. When not working, she spends her time being mum to her beautiful daughter and enjoys her pet labradoodle.
