Helen Whait, ActivOT Adelaide, completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy (OT) from the University of South Australia at the end of 1992.
Since graduating Helen has worked in a broad variety of settings. She has managed a Day Therapy Centre including supervision of occupational therapists and therapy assistants.
Helen has worked in Occupational Health, Safety and Workers’ rehabilitation for an ASX listed company and in domiciliary care for government as a senior occupational therapist and manual handling consultant.
Since 2002, Helen has been self-employed in private practice.
Helen is passionate about occupational therapy. She enjoys helping people and making a difference in their lives. Helen is always client centred in her approach to occupational therapy practice. She recognises that the client is the expert in their life and aims to assist them to achieve what is important to their lives.
In 2012 Helen became the first occupational therapist in Australia to franchise a private practice. In doing so she is enabling other therapists to benefit from her experience and resources while building their own thriving practices. Since founding ActivOT as a franchise, twenty-five therapists have made the transition from employees to private practitioners.
Helen also values family and is a mum to three school aged boys who keep her very busy outside of work! She has many interests and hobbies.
Helen is an SA finalist in the Telstra Business Women’s Awards 2016 in the Entrepreneurship Category. She was also awarded the OT Australia SA 2016 Williams OT Innovative Service Delivery Award.
ActivOT was semi-finalist for a number of awards in 2019 including the Allied Health Awards and the South Australian Community Achievement Awards, and has been nominated for further awards in 2020.
