ActivOT TA Mermaid Waters

Gareth Wilson, ActivOT TA Mermaid Waters

Gareth Wilson, ActivOT TA Mermaid Waters, was born and bred in the South Island of New Zealand. Having developed a keen interest in how things work led to studying Engineering at Canterbury University where he further strengthened his natural problem solving skills.

Gareth relocated to Melbourne in 2008 and with the experience gained in New Zealand in technical fields, established a successful Audio Visual Integration business that grew year on year for its customer-focused approach.

Gareth and his wife had their third child in 2016 who was unexpectedly born with congenital abnormalities and life-long disabilities. They became well known at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne, Very Special Kids and the Mito Foundation, where they were a part of fundraisers and events. Their son exceeded all expectations placed on him through the ongoing determination and energy his parents applied. Unfortunately, he passed away before his third birthday.

This lived, and very rewarding, experience prompted both Gareth and his wife to relocate their family to Queensland and translate their skills into assisting others in more vulnerable corners of society.

Gareth is inspired to become an occupational therapy assistant by his son who remains the main driving force on the journey to help others and everything that Gareth does.

Gareth is studying for a Cert IV in Allied Health Assistance.

Gareth has an extensive sporting background, having spent many years playing representative Rugby Union in New Zealand and boxing in both countries, He proudly coaches his eldest son’s Rugby Union team.

In his spare time, Gareth enjoys fishing and exploring the Australian wilderness with his wife and children.
